Love Your Colors!

Recently in our Artisan Team group chat we were talking about colors that we rarely use and don’t ‘love’ as much as some others. The idea was born to create a project using that color that tends to be left out and launch a campaign to #loveyourstampinupcolors

We hope you will share this hashtag too and create a project that features a color that can feel a little lonely in your collection.

Can you tell what color was my focus? Merry Merlot! I don’t know why but it isn’t a color that I reach for very often, but after making this card I think I have developed a little more love for it. Doesn’t it look beautiful and elegant paired with the Shaded Summer stamp set and some gold accents?

The base of my card is Merry Merlot and I cut a 2 x 5 1/2 strip that I ran through the Pretty Flowers embossing folder and added to the bottom of my card.

I cut a layer of Basic White and ran the bottom through the one of the Basic Borders Dies…if you do not have these yet, hit ADD TO CART now :)

I decided to pull out the Gilded Leafing to add an elegant touch to my card. I thought it would look so pretty with Merry Merlot. I used the wide tip of my Tombow Multi Adhesive Glue to spread some glue in random spots along the edge. You can then press the panel into the Gilded Leafing and dust off the excess. It is such as easy way to add this product on.

I flicked my Merry Merlot marker across the card base too. I love adding a little flecking of color to my projects and this technique is so easy.

I used my Stampin’ Write Markers in Merry Merlot and Mossy Meadow to color both of the large floral images in the Shaded Summer stamp set. I then hand trimmed this out and added them to my project to appear like one larger floral.

I also selected a couple flowers to color again and cut out to add on top of the image to give a little more height and dimension.

I added a little strip of Gold Foil Paper along the top edge as well for a little more glam. And finally finished it off with some classic Pearls! Can’t get any more elegant than pearls right?

I love how this card turned out and I am so happy I have sparked a little more love for this rich lovely color. I hope you will pull Merry Merlot off of your shelf and create something with it too. Make sure to use the hashtag #loveyourstampinupcolors

Artisan Design Team February Share!

Hello friends! I am so excited to share a few more details on my Artisan Design Team projects for February! My focus was on the A Touch of Ink stamp set and the Golden Garden Acetate Specialty Paper. I knew right away that I wanted to use this acetate paper on a scrapbook page and share an easy tip for coloring it.

The design is printed on a thick window sheet or acetate and is gold on one side and silver on the other! You can feature either side by just coloring on the opposite or backside of what you want to feature.

The easiest way to color our acetate sheets is to use our alcohol based Stampin’ Blends markers in the DARK option. Some of the alcohol inks depth is lost on the window sheet so I found I had better success using the dark option and then you can layer on a bit of color by adding in a different shade on top like I did on some of the leaves with Old Olive and Mossy Meadow.

You also want to make sure that you peel off the protective layer that is on the silver side of the acetate sheet.

Once you have done this you can start coloring with your Stampin’ Blends.

I also decided to hand trim around the flowers of the 12x12 sheet.

You can use this easy coloring technique embellish a scrapbook page or a card!

I used Basic White Note Cards for the two cards that I designed. I added a bit of the Gilded Leafing to both my butterfly on the note card and the hummingbird on my scrapbook page. I also stamped with the Gilded Leafing on the butterfly card and hand trimmed some of the florals from the Fine Art Floral DSP.

On the second note card I colored a strip of the acetate that I had left over from my scrapbook page and added it to a piece of the Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper.

Around the World on Wednesday--Favorite Inspiration

This month we are exploring where we get our inspiration from which I think is super interesting. Sometimes I have an idea, or want to use a specific color, but get stuck thinking about what other colors might coordinate. My number one go to tool are the Color Coach cards that Stampin’ Up! has developed. I know everyone who is participating in the Hop this month will have some fantastic tips and inspiration for us to get inspired when we are feeling stuck!

The Color Coach cards are a Demonstrator resource found in the Printing Place. I am sure if you ask your own local demo she/he would be more than happy to share them with you. As a demo myself I have offered this as class project. We organized all of our Color Coach cards into one of our 6 x 8 albums with a card stock sample. I reference this book ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I just need a bit of color inspiration!

So for our project today, I opened up my Color Coach and selected a Calypso Coral Color Coach Card (say that 5x fast!) and used the 3 colors to create my project—Calypso Coral, Petal Pink and Sahara Sand. I used gold as my accent color to add that glitz aspect.

We have so many options to add gold to our projects—we can emboss with gold embossing powder, add gold foil paper to our projects, gold embellishments (so many options) or our brand new gold Gilded Leafing embellishment. The Gilded Leafing has a bit of a different look to it than gold embossing and I wanted to play around with it on this project.

Because I wanted to incorporate all three colors from the Color Coach Card onto my project I reached for my Blending Brushes which are a brand new tool being offered by Stampin’ Up!. I started by blending the Petal Pink color first because I was then able to use the SAME brush to add in the Calypso Coral! These brushes are totally amazing.

The Petal Pink is blended across the mid section of the card. I then added in the Calypso Coral along the bottom left corner and brought the Sahara Sand in from the top right. The Sahara Sand just gives our paper a subtle color but you can see the difference when you add the sentiment which is on Whisper White/Basic White card stock.

The sentiment is from the stamp set Always in my Heart

I continued the gold theme by accenting my sentiment with some Gold Foil paper cut with the scallop die from the Peony die set and some Gold Metallic Pearls.

I stamped both opposite corners using the Sale-a-bration stamp set Corner Bouquet. To apply the Gilded Leafing to my image I started by stamping it with Versamark and then adding Heat’n Stick Powder over top.

HOT TIP: To use your Heat’n Stick Powder successfully only heat it until it starts to glisten. Once this happens it has become sticky and you can add another ingredient on top. If you over heat or cook it too long, it actually loses its stickiness

After heating the powder you can add your Gilded Leafing. I have dumped out my jar (which will explode in volume) into a large container. You can press your card right into the leafing in the bin or you can add it with tweezers. Either method works but I prefer pressing it into the container. Once you have it attached it, it will look like a hot mess (trust me you are going to look at this and think ‘this ain’t pretty'), you need to use either a Stampin’ Sponge or the large Water Painter brush to brush away the excess and bring the detail to life. I was able to apply extra Gilded Leafing to my project in areas where I didn’t feel there was enough. You can use your finger to rub it with some pressure to your project as well.

In the end, I think it turned out pretty spectacular!
